The university extension as a way to build medication therapy management services in primary health care

Objective: The objective of this article is to describe and analyze the strengths and limitations of a university extension of experience in the planning and provision of management services of Medication Therapy Management (GTM) in Primary Health Care (PHC). Method: qualitative research with analysis of documents generated during construction experience and offering the GTM service at APS was used. Data were analyzed through narrative analysis. Results: During field activities 20 users had their assessed pharmacotherapeutic needs, for every problem related to the use of identified drug interventions were planned, which were agreed with the users and health professionals. This initiative was expanded to other health units in the city, with the involvement of pharmaceutical service. Discussion: In the teaching-service integration work between students, teachers, professionals and service managers must take place in an integrated and collaborative way. The National Plan for University Extension reaffirms the university's commitment to turn to the generation of knowledge that can meet people's needs. Develop lifelong learning strategies, involving health professionals, teachers and students is key to promoting integration between teaching and service, improve the training of students and professionals, and especially to improve the care provided and strengthening the SUS. Conclusions: The GTM is an important tool to systematize clinical pharmaceutical practice. The partnership of health-service university and the university extension projects generate knowledge and innovations to the health unit. It is expected that the extent of integration, education and research contribute to the training of professionals able to influence the reorganization of curriculum in Pharmacy at the institution where the experiment was developed and others that will become professional scenario of those who experience it.
