Pharmaceutical inspections and the quality of medicines storage in a hospital wards

The aim of this study is to investigate the results of the medicines storage monitoring in the hospital wards by pharmacy. The methodological approach is a case study. The chosen set is a public hospital located in Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil. Data were collected from participant observation and document analysis the all inspections performed by pharmacy in 2011 and 2012. The text presents a flowchart at the medicines storage monitoring by hospital pharmacy and the results by quality parameter and inspection frequency. The investigate revealed an increase of quality in all wards monitored. The study allows the procedure be adopted in others hospitals. The monitoring of medicines storage in hospital wards is part of the work of pharmacists and nurses in the prevention of medicines errors.
