Acquisition stage evaluation to management of pharmaceutical services in public hospitals

Objective: Evaluate the importance of acquisition step, highlighting relevant factors to contribute to planning and management of hospital pharmaceutical services in the Unified Health System.
Methods: This is an observational , retrospective and quantitative study conducted in public health system of Teresina, Piauí, which were analyzed using mean and standard deviation the deadlines for licitation process been concluded from Pharmaceutical Services request. Moreover requests times before expiration of nine actual licitation process, between 2013 and 2014. It was also analyzed the association between number of items and the deadlines for completion of the licitation process through the Spearman coefficient and simple linear regression. Statistical analyzes were performed using the Microsoft Excel® 2010 and Assistat 7.7 programs.
Results: The average time for conclude licitation was 184 days (Standard Deviation - SD = 73) and deadlines after request was 69 (SD=19) days. It showed an disagreement between these factors and their influence on supply. The results show that although there is a moderate correlation (Spearman = 0.4167) between the number of items and the licitation deadlines. They are not predictable.
Conclusion: This study highlight the acquisition as a complex and essential step on pharmaceutical assistance that directly influences the supply continuity. In addition, this study proved to been reproducible for other realities, highlighting relevant factors related to the acquisition to be considered in an appropriate evaluation and planning for pharmaceutical services in public hospitals.
