Abstract

Aim: To characterize pharmacotherapeutic profile of obese patients before performing bariatric surgery. Methods: This was a cross-sectional observational study, with analysis of qualitative and quantitative data. Was conducted in a hospital in a city on the south of Brazil, by evaluating 72 records from 2010 to 2011, patients who underwent bariatric surgery later. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 17.0 software. We used the t test or U test for comparison of two means, the chi -square or Fisher exact test was already to compare qualitative variables used. Results: Of the 72 charts studied, 35 (48,6%) had metabolic syndrome, of these, 15 (42,8%) used antihypertensive and lipid-lowering followed by hypoglycemic. Of the patients with metabolic syndrome, 12 (34,3%) not used drugs for the treatment thereof, however other drugs were used for the treatment of other comorbidities. Using these data, we can further identify that at least 12 (34,3%) of patients had drug interactions. Conclusion: This study allows us to identify patients with metabolic syndrome who do not do the proper treatment and other patients who pharmacotherapeutic treatment with the existence of drug interactions.
