Abstract

Objective: This study sought to investigate the practice pharmaceutical in Farmácias da Família of Recife and how it can be related to pharmaceutical care practices in primary health care.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study of descriptive and analytical methodological strategy, with all pharmacists working in Farmácias da Família, using a questionnaire for data collection. The questionnaires were administered during the period February-March 2012. Frequencies of variables were generated using SPSS version 9.0 and the analysis of data on subjective questions focused understanding and interpretation of perceptions from responses of pharmacists studied.

Results: Pharmacists in this study represent a population of mostly female (81.8%), mean age 40 years (SD = 7.2). All (100%) reported that management activities are the main activities developed in the work routine. 27% reported provide guidance for patient on the use of medicines and 45% realize monitoring patients with specific programs (tuberculosis and leprosy). 45.5% do not feel qualified to exercise care activities for patients and the reasons reported for them were academic deficiency, which prioritizes the technical part, and the lack of proper training in services where they operate.

Conclusions: Although the structure and organization of the family of pharmacies in the city of Recife have meant a new practice of pharmaceutical care management of municipal, pharmacists still primarily linked to bureaucratic and that the pharmaceutical care practice is not a reality in the pharmacies of the family.
