Follow-up study with prospective follow-up non-competitive 50 charts of patients admitted to a hospital for evaluation of antimicrobial prescriptions for restricted use. The parameter used to assess prescription rationality was the antimicrobial guide Sanford Guide and the diagnoses were classified by ICD-10.The most prescribed antibiotic piperacillin + tazobactam was 32%. There was a combination of two or more antibiotics in 44% of the studied prescriptions. The ICU was the clinic where the largest amount of use of these drugs. Empirical treatment occurred in 86% of cases. 56% of the evaluated prescriptions were inadequate when compared with the Sanford Guide .. Statistical analysis using Chi-square test, one can make an association suggesting that the empirical use of antimicrobial leads to greater irrationality prescription (p <0.002). It is necessary to use antimicrobial stewadship for restricted use antimicrobial, rationalizing its use in the institution which the survey was conducted.
