Operational analysis of a teaching hospital satellite pharmacy of Belo Horizonte

Objective: Perform a qualitative analysis on the operations of a satellite pharmacy in a teaching hospital of Belo Horizonte. Methodology: An observational study carried out within the months of March and April of 2013 in a teaching hospital of Belo Horizonte. For the analysis of the process were used quality tools and administration concepts. Results: Produced sealed tapes average number was 161 (95% CI = 160.92 ± 3.27, n = 50). The 95th percentile found for prescriptions was 179. Time averages of processing were 102s (95% CI = 102 ± 10 s, n = 239) for separation, 83s for write off (95% CI = 83 ± 7s, n = 261) and 215s (95% CI = 215 ± 20s, n = 276) for sealing. Average use of employees in an average day is 51% for the complete frame of workers and 85% when one employee is absent. Based on the 95% percentile, we calculated the average use of 57% with full frame of workers and 95% when one employee was absent. In April, the OPE graph shows that the time available for employees work was 63.98% of that allowed, where approximately 20% of this is lost due to absenteeism. Reasons that cause an employee to stay away from workplace cause impact on operations, interfere with the quality of work and may cause dispensing errors. Conclusion: It was observed that service quality does not only depend on a qualified and efficient team, but also on work conditions and workload.
