Abstract

Introduction: Monitoring of pharmaceutical management with the use of indicators involves the financial issue and quality of care especially in public hospitals. Objective: To monitor the use of indicators in pharmaceutical management in a public hospital. Methods: Study was a descriptive exploratory approach with quantitative as methodological strategy case study in a public hospital with 206 beds in Minas Gerais in the period September 2011 to September 2012. Results: The rate of supply segments ranged from 85 to 98%, the index of financial loss 0% was achieved only by diets and chemicals products. The delivery rate of the segments ranged from 9% to 50%, the rate of physical inventory discrepancy segments was 0% to 3% and the average rate of errors in dispensing separation was 1% (dp = 0.004). Monitoring of pharmaceutical practices using indicators showed that management has some problems that can be solved over time in public macrosystem especially with the rate of delivery and supply as well as the paradigm with zero loss, because the loss is inevitable especially medical supplies and medicines. The indicators should be monitored monthly and implementations of corrective actions within the governance of the hospital, because there is no quality without the supplies necessary for the continuity of health process.
