Review of the use of drugs through digestives probes: a hospital-based study

Objective: The study aimed to analyze the scientific literature through publications on prescription, preparation and administration of dosage forms for the proper administration of medication through digestives probes and its consequences, in order to subsidize improvements hospital care. Method: Study review in databases national and international. We identified 100 articles, in which 15 met the inclusion criteria. Exclusion criteria were: case studies, literature reviews and systematic reviews. The Studies were located in Medline, SciELO, Lilacs and Elsevier (Science Direct) in the period 1996 to 2011. Results: And addressed three main points: the technique of preparation and administration of drugs by digestive probes, the major interactions between drug and food in the enteral nutrition and the incompatibilities. Conclusion: The findings point to further studies and update of the health team about this.
