Choices, dilemmas and challenges of hospital pharmacists in search of an unique identity

Identifying the perceptions of hospital pharmacists of problems and transformations that affect the identity as a health professional. Cross-sectional, descriptive and qualitative study that was held between 2012- 2013 in São Paulo city. Open interviews were held which followed a set of procedures covered by Oral History methodology. Seven hospital pharmacists from public and private hospitals were interviewed. The analysis of the reports the following themes emerged: The choice of profession, the professional training, the pharmacist at the hospital and humanization as necessary issue. The process of seeking a professional identity is closely linked to training and is still an important issue in the current conjuncture of pharmacists.
