Abstract

Method: A non systematic literature review in Medline library databases (Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online) with PubMed and BVS (Virtual Health Library)´s interface.

Results: A total of 21 articles with information on drug administration techniques by hypodermoclysis were found, which relied on the identification of 78 drugs, with only 53 drugs offering information on the dose used in hypodermoclysis. Information concerning diluents to be used and other administration criteria were identified, respectively, for a quantity of 56 and 47 drugs. The drugs with greater frequency in reference articles were morphine, metoclopramide, haloperidol, midazolam, butylscopolamine and dexamethasone, which were described in more than 10 items. There were records of adverse reactions related to 49 drugs, and the most common reactions were pain, inflammation and edema at the application site.

Conclusion: Few studies have been found to compose the review, especially regarding aspects of drugs efficacy and safety. It is expected that this review will point to the need to obtain more information about the use of this route of administration.
