Notifications of pharmacovigilance in an oncologic sentinel hospital of Paraíba

Objectives: Identify and evaluate the records of notifications of pharmacovigilance for five years in an oncologic sentinel hospital of Paraíba.
Methods: Documentary character study, cross-sectional and retrospective that used as a data source a notification form of suspected adverse medicines reactions (AMR) and technical defect about medicines of the Risk Management department of the hospital from January 01st, 2008 to December 31st, 2012.
Results: 34 notifications were processed, which 61,8% were related to technical defect about medicines and 38,2% to the suspected AMR. About the professionals involved, stood out pharmacists (73,5%), nurses (11,8%), nursing technicians (8,8%) and physicians (5,9%). Through the suspected AMR, it was found that the most common drugs were antineoplasic agents (84,7%). Organs and systems affected were: integumentary system (37,5%), respiratory system (31,5%) disorders of the general conditions (15,5%), gastrointestinal system (9,3%) and peripheral and central nervous system (6,2%). The most relevant ones found from the notifications of technical defects about medicines were: changes in general conditions (57%), color changes (19%), ineffectiveness (14%), and physical and chemical changes (10%).
Conclusions: There is a need for more investment in this area, particularly in relation to awareness of the importance of reporting to provide data for health regulatory purposes and ensuring the safety of the user.
