The P-glycoprotein (P-gP) is an efflux protein, involved in all stages of pharmacokinetics, contributing to the occurrence of DI. Knowledge the action of drugs on P-gP becomes important to identify and manage these DI. This study aimed to identify drugs used by the elderly at home with action as substrates or modulators of P-glycoprotein. This is a quantitative, retrospective, descriptive and exploratory study realized in a teaching hospital, through documentary analysis of medical records of patients admitted from January to December 2010. About half of the patients were female and used polypharmacy. The mean age was 69.5 years. Regarding the action as substrate or modulator of the P-gP, were found description in the literature for 37.7% of the drugs. About 80% of patients used at least one drug with activity. The majority (73.7%) of the elderly used at least one drug that acts as substrate, 65.3% used at least one inhibitor and 13.7% at least one inductor. The results showed that the elderly used a large number of drugs with actions as substrates or modulators of P-gp.&nbsp;</p> ER -
