The increase of medication adherence, consequently, adequacy in biochemical exams results, can improve the quality of life and clinical outcome of the patient.

Objective: To evaluate medication adherence in chronic renal patients undergoing hemodialysis in a service in which this population is not assisted by a clinical pharmacist.

Methods: Epidemiologic study, with descriptive and transversal outlining. The Brief Medication Questionnaire (BMQ) and the Morisky Green Test (MGT) were the instruments used in order to evaluate medication adherence in patients undergoing hemodialysis in a hospital in Porto Alegre – RS.

Results: The study consisted of forty individuals, the prevalent gender was male (67,5%), at least 75% of the patients were over 60 years old, 77,5% were white and 65% married. According to what was obtained through the TMG, 23 patients (57,5%) were classified as moderately adherent, followed by 13 (32,5%) adherent and 4 (10%) with low adherence. The results obtained in the BMQ showed that the sample was divided in “low adherence” (65%) and “probable low adherence” (35%).

Conclusion: Despite the different classifications, both questionnaires made evident that most patients do not adhere properly to the pharmacological treatment, justifying the need of a pharmacotherapeutic follow-up in this population. As an incentive to adherence, it is necessary to identify the influent factors for the development of educative and incentivating strategies to patients.
}, number={4}, journal={Revista Brasileira de Farmácia Hospitalar e Serviços de Saúde}, author={BAMPI, SAMUELLE CAROLINA and LEAL, LISIANE FREITAS and FALAVIGNA, MAICON and ARAUJO, LILIAN PERES RIGHETTO DE and EICK, RENATO and KUHMMER, REGINA and GUTERRES, CATIA MOREIRA and GNATTA, DIEGO}, year={2019}, month={Mar.} }
