The same route that is used in enteral nutrition (EN) is also used for drug administration. Monitoring of enteral drug administration is recommended. In order to optimize drug use through enteral tubes a Service for Therapeutical Monitoring of Patients Using Nasoenteral Tubes (STMPUNT) was launched in 2008 at a college hospital.
Objective: To describe actions performed and results obtained under the STMPUNT.
Methods: A retrospective, descriptive, and exploratory study in the course of which data were compiled from forms on patients monitored by the STMPUNT.
Results: 403 patients were observed, with a predominance of elderly males, com a predominância de idosos do sexo masculino, with a concurrent analysis of 508, 133 and 263 prescriptions issued from 2009 to 2011 and the performance of 180, 187 and 80 pharmaceutical interventions. In 2010 forms for monitoring this service were modified and it was possible to quantify and classify interventions performed and accepted. Most interventions were undertaken by the nursing team (53%); interventions such as suggestions to increase dosages, change of pharmaceutical forms, change of active principles and guidance on home medication following hospital discharge, among others, were also undertaken. There was an acceptance of 75% and 97% of interventions in the years 2010 and 2011, respectively.
Conclusion: The pharmaceutical interventions points to the importance of monitoring patients using nasoenteral tubes so as to ensure proper assistance to these patients in a hospital setting.

Descriptors: Enteral nutrition, Drugs, Pharmacy service.
}, number={1}, journal={Revista Brasileira de Farmácia Hospitalar e Serviços de Saúde}, author={SANTOS, CRISTIANE MORAES and COSTA , JOSIANE MOREIRA DA and NETTO, MAIRA UMEZAKI DE QUEIROZ and REIS, ADRIANO MAX MOREIRA and CASTRO, MARIZA DOS SANTOS}, year={2019}, month={Mar.} }
